Lead The Rest Through Read Fest!

As the doors opened for the Read Fest to be held at School of Inspired Leadership, we could see a plethora of eager volunteers gearing up for the same!
As the flurry picked pace, the excitement grew paramount with participants enquiring for the same, curiosity & inquisitiveness pretty evident from their expressions!

The Esha Volunteers left no stone unturned be it through providing information to students or motivating them to record.

Needless to say, the students were very excited & eager to help.
Help implied they had to miss classes & record audio content for Esha..

"We want to help! But we have classes till 6:15! How to go about it?"

It seemed like an uphill task to convince them to stay back after classes.
The time had come to enlighten the students on how just 10-20 minutes of their time could help a Blind person in understanding & interpreting the world he lives in, in a better way.

The Esha Volunteers did succeed in getting recordings in languages ranging from Tamil to Bengali.
The mission resonated well with the students & they could well understand the impact this was creating on the society they live in..

" Yes, it did take time. Yet, I feel like I've done something of greater value today!"

The Impact could be felt in the conviction & tenacity the Participants showed despite the fact that there were multiple takes at recording owing to technical glitches & noise disturbances.

Wanted: Brand Name for Project for Schools

Dear All: We are looking for a brand name for a project that will work with school children in an year long project. During the year, the students will participate in activities that lead to an inclusive mindset - Blind Walk, Theater Workshop (9Tanki), Read Fest, Blind School visits et al. At the end of the year, these children will be ambassadors of inclusion in their own lives. The project will be fun, with no preaching, a lot of experiential learning.

Need Help - Career Guidance in Law

A friend of Esha is looking for a career guidance for someone he knows:
I am looking for career guidance for a young unmarried girl based out of Nagpur who is pursuing her LLB from there. She has stayed there from childhood and stays along with her parents. She might come to Delhi/ Gurgaon in July for a couple of days, but would prefer to interact with someone who is based at Nagpur or someone she can reach on telephone.
If you know any lawyer who will be able to provide ca...reer guidance to this girl, either over the phone in Nagpur, or in person in Delhi, please comment or PM.

Major Update to the Online Library

Over the last 2-3 days, we have worked on a major update to the online audio library at www.braillecards.org/audio.php

We have gone from 1951 to 2141 files in one go. Usually, I write about the files that have been added in a release, but in this case, there are too many files to even talk about the highlights...

So, for the first time, we are going to just list out the total no. of files we have in each language. As we speak, the no. of files are:

Wow! That's skewed! And the languages of the North East are not even represented!

Ye soorat badalni chahiye.. we must change this.. go on, its the summer break.. please encourage your children to record if they can.. they will learn the language and we will add to the library.. please help!

 

ICSE 7th class help available now!

The students of the Sri Ram School took real interest in the recording they were about to do for CLABIL. They wanted to do work that will really be useful.

They made the extra effort of preparing this whole material so that there is no copyright infringement.

Need Help: Legal Rights in everyday language.

 Please help create some legal guidelines in Indian languages that can be used by those of us who are not english literate.

For instance, what are the rights of a married woman in her marital and parental home? what are the legal options for parents who have been abandoned by their children? or parents who are being pressurised by children to give up their financial rights to their own property.

This content will help a lot of people. please spread the word. you can record in any Indian language or even English, spoken slowly and in indian accent.

Deepak, who is visually challenged, is working towards his bank clerical exam. can you please help by recording content in audio for this boy in ENGLISH medium.

There is a request to record GK in marathi. If you can speak Marathi, please do record whatever Wikipedia articles you can find. Right now, we dont have anything.

Need Help: anyone interested in guiding a project team

INCA - INitiative for Community Action - the student body at IIM Calcutta that provides consulting services to NGOs , has very sweetly agreed to do a project for Esha.

This is a research project which tries to answer the following questions:
1. At blind schools, what is the access that children have to audio resources.
2. Given this access, what is the utilisation - that is, how many children actually use the resources they have access to.
3. What is the cause of this utilisation? (whether high or low)
4. How do they actually use audio resources? What need is met (or what need would they like to meet) using audio resources.
5. What can we do, if anything, to improve awareness about, and usage of audio resources among the blind.

If any of you is interested in a project of this kind, and would like to guide the project team (students from IIM Cal - remote guidance only. no travel required), please do let me know. We really need collaboration on this project.
